Issues

In our elections, every voice must be heard, and every vote must count. Voting should be accessible for all citizens, and our laws should promote participation in our democracy and instill trust in our elections.

CLC seeks to protect and expand access to voting and instill trust in our elections.

CLC fights in court anti-voter laws that target Black voters, voters of color, and voters with disabilities. CLC advocates to restore voting rights for Americans with past felony convictions, and advocates for state and federal policies that improve and protect in-person voting access and voter registration.

CLC also builds confidence in our election processes at the state and federal levels, including updating the Electoral Count Act to strengthen the guardrails surrounding the Electoral College process. CLC supports policies to bolster protections and streamline the process for the election workers and poll workers who keep our elections safe and secure.

CLC Sues to Block Trump Administration’s Illegal Election Overreach

President Trump’s executive order is an unlawful attempt to take control of our elections. CLC sued to stop this executive overreach. And, in April, our clients won a legal victory: a key part of the EO was paused.

Defending the Freedom to Vote from the Trump Administration’s Unconstitutional Presidential Overreach (LULAC, et al. v. Executive Office of the President)

Campaign Legal Center, along with State Democracy Defenders Fund (SDDF) and on behalf of the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), Secure Families Initiative (SFI) and Arizona Students’ Association (ASA), are challenging President Trump’s illegal executive order that could unlawfully and unconstitutionally prevent American citizens from exercising their freedom to vote.

Combating Arbitrary Changes to the Rights Restoration Process in Tennessee (Falls v. Goins II)

Campaign Legal Center (CLC) is representing Ernest Falls in a lawsuit seeking to compel Tennessee’s Coordinator of Elections to recognize that his right to vote has been restored and to notify his county election officials of this restoration. Mr. Falls has taken the necessary steps to restore his freedom to vote in Tennessee.
