Voting and Elections
In our elections, every voice must be heard, and every vote must count. Voting should be accessible for all citizens, and our laws should promote participation in our democracy and instill trust in our elections.
CLC seeks to protect and expand access to voting and instill trust in our elections.
CLC fights in court anti-voter laws that target Black voters, voters of color, and voters with disabilities. CLC advocates to restore voting rights for Americans with past felony convictions, and advocates for state and federal policies that improve and protect in-person voting access and voter registration.
CLC also builds confidence in our election processes at the state and federal levels, including updating the Electoral Count Act to strengthen the guardrails surrounding the Electoral College process. CLC supports policies to bolster protections and streamline the process for the election workers and poll workers who keep our elections safe and secure.

Recent Voting and Elections Cases and Actions
Campaign Legal Center represents the League of Women Voters, League of Women Voters of Colorado, League of Women Voters of New Jersey, League of Women Voters of Saratoga County, League of Women Voters of the Charleston Area, and League of Women Voters of Milwaukee County in challenging a new federal policy that prevents civic engagement groups from providing voter registration services to new citizens after administrative naturalization ceremonies.

Campaign Legal Center filed an amicus brief arguing that the Federal Election Commission (FEC) and Election Assistance Commission (EAC), two such agencies, must remain independent to ensure free and fair elections.

The League of Women Voters is challenging the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)’s consolidation and distribution of flawed federal citizenship data to states and other federal agencies under the Privacy Act, the Administrative Procedure Act, and the U.S. Constitution. Campaign Legal Center submitted an amicus brief urging the court to block this program.

How Election Officials Are Preparing for the 2024 Presidential Election
On June 12, 2024, at 1 PM, Campaign Legal Center hosted this event to hear from election officials about the tried-and-tested systems in place to make sure votes are cast fairly and counted correctly, and to provide the opportunity to find out more about what election officials are focused on between now and when voting begins in their states for the general election.

Dismantling Barriers to Youth Civic Engagement
