Mel received her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, where she was Notes Editor for the Georgetown Journal of Law & Modern Critical Race Perspectives and a student attorney in the Racial Equity in Education Law and Policy Clinic. During law school, Mel was a law clerk at Native American Rights Fund and the U.S. Department of Justice.

Mel graduated cum laude from Georgetown University Law Center (J.D., 2023) and with distinction from the University of Michigan (B.A., 2018). She is admitted to practice law in the District of Columbia, as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit and the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. She joined CLC in 2023.
