Missouri Supreme Court Leaves Map that Cracks Kansas City in Place for 2026

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — A decision was issued today by the Missouri Supreme Court in Wise v. State, a case addressing the new congressional map enacted in 2025 that splits Kansas City across three congressional districts. The Court also issued a ruling in a separate case addressing the effect of a referendum on the new map.

Campaign Legal Center, the ACLU Voting Rights Project and the ACLU of Missouri together issued the following statement:

“Today, the Missouri Supreme Court held argument in two cases seeking to vindicate the right of Missouri voters to elect representatives in constitutional districts and exercise their referendum right under the Missouri Constitution. Mere hours after argument was held, the Court released its decisions siding against voters in every respect. We are extremely disappointed in these rulings, and in their failure to protect Missourians’ right to fair maps. This state—and our democracy—are worse off for this outcome.”
