“State legislators are trying to throw out election systems that have worked for them for decades that worked to elect them to office,” said Danielle Lang, a voting rights attorney at Campaign Legal Center. “I think there is a partisan view on this, which is that these measures that will make it harder to vote will make it harder for Democrats to vote, so in that way, I think Republican legislators are trying to focus on Democratic voters. Instead, it is really poor people, elderly people, people with disabilities, and communities of color that are being targeted by these restrictions.”
