In Texas, an even broader bill described by sponsors as an election security measure died before the legislative session ended amid contentions that it would criminalize poll workers and pose a host of voting impediments. “It used to be the case that legislatures could sleepily introduce these amendments that chip away at the right to vote and it didn’t get a lot of attention. That isn’t the case anymore,” said Danielle Lang, co-director of the Washington-based Campaign Legal Center.
