More recently, Ms Boebert has come under fire for using her campaign war chest to pay herself $22,259, supposedly a reimbursement for driving 38,712 miles during the course of her Congressional campaign. Kedric Payne, general counsel and senior director of ethics for the Campaign Legal Center, told The Denver Post that the $22,000 payout was "unheard of in my review of monetary reimbursement". For reference, a driver can make it from New York to California in under 3,000 miles.
