United States v. Evans — Amici Curiae Brief of the Brennan Center for Justice and Campaign Legal Center

District Court

On March 23, 2026, CLC and the Brennan Center filed an amicus brief in support of the Defendant’s Motion to Dismiss in United States v. Evans, the case in which the United States seeks to compel production of Washington D.C.’s unredacted voter registration list. The brief argues that the U.S. DOJ’s efforts to compel the list are part of a larger, unprecedented effort across the federal government to gather data about American voters, and that it undermines the authority over elections that the Constitution reserves for Congress and the states. The Court granted our motion on March 24, 2026.
