United States v. Evans — Amici Curiae Brief of the Brennan Center for Justice and Campaign Legal Center

On April 17, 2026, CLC, the Brennan Center, and Goodman Acker, P.C. filed an amicus brief on behalf of the League of Women Voters of Michigan and in support of the appellees in United States v. Jocelyn Benson, in which the United States is appealing the dismissal of its lawsuit seeking to compel production of Michigan’s unredacted voter registration list. The brief argues that the district court’s decision should be affirmed on the alternative grounds because the United States failed to provide a basis for its request, and that the Court should closely examine this type of unprecedented demand.
