United States v. Bellows — Defendant-Intervenor League of Women Voters of Maine’s Opposition to the Motion for an Order to Show Cause

On December 12, 2025, Campaign Legal Center, along with our co-counsel at the Brennan Center and Johnson & Webbert, filed an Opposition to the United States’ Motion for an Order to Show Cause. The brief argues that an order to show cause is an improper procedural vehicle to obtain this voter data and that the United States does not have the authority under the National Voter Registration Act, the Help America Vote Act or the Civil Rights Act to demand sensitive voter data from the state of Maine.
