On July 24, 2025, the U.S. Supreme Court granted a stay of the Eighth Circuit's decision that private plaintiffs cannot maintain a private right of action for alleged violations of Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act through 42 U.S.C. § 1983. The stay will remain in effect until Plaintiffs' petition for certiorari is filed and resolved by the Court.
