Trump et al. v. Slaughter et al. — Amicus Brief of Campaign Legal Center and Trevor Potter

On November 14, 2025, Campaign Legal Center (CLC), joined by CLC president and former Republican chairman of the Federal Election Commission (FEC) Trevor Potter, filed an amicus brief in the U.S. Supreme Court in Trump v. Slaughter. CLC's brief urges the Court to uphold nearly 100 years of legal precedent that prevents the president from exerting complete control over independent agencies including those overseeing elections. As the brief argues, independent agencies promote democratic accountability, whereas authorizing the president to control the nation’s election agencies would open elections up to partisan manipulation, undermining the integrity of our democratic system and the rule of law.
