Second Amicus Brief: People Not Politicians v. Onder

On September 23, 2026, Campaign Legal Center, the ACLU, and the ACLU of Missouri filed an amicus brief at the U.S. Supreme Court supporting a request for clarification or a stay submitted by People Not Politicians, the organization leading a referendum effort on Missouri's gerrymandered congressional map.

After a federal district court ordered that no map other than the 2025 map could be used in Missouri's congressional election in November (in opposition to the unanimous order of the Missouri Supreme Court), the U.S. Supreme Court granted a stay of the district court's order. But shortly thereafter, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit held expedited proceedings and ordered the district court to re-issue essentially the same order under a new name, which the district court promptly did. The latest application to the U.S. Supreme Court asks to clarify that the previous order staying the district court applies to this new order, and end the chaos around Missouri's congressional map.
