Preliminary Injunction Order on USPS Final Rule (DC)

On September 13, 2026, the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia granted preliminary injunction orders in LULAC v. Exec. Office of the President, DSCC v. Trump, and NAACP v. Trump blocking a new USPS rule that would have created insurmountable hurdles for election administrators and resulted in the disenfranchisement of millions of voters who rely on mail voting.

The court joins the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts in ruling that USPS's attempt to overhaul mail voting rules is unlawful and blocking the new regulations from going into effect for the 2026 midterm elections.

This is a significant victory for access to mail voting and stopping the administration's attempts to unlawfully seize power over setting election rules.
