Plaintiffs' Motion for Preliminary Injunction Brief — LWV of South Dakota v. Johnson

On August 24, 2026, the League of Women Voters of South Dakota and an individual voter filed a motion for preliminary injunction against the South Dakota Secretary of State and State Board of Elections, seeking expedited narrow relief in advance of the November 2026 General Election. Without this relief, Plaintiffs argue many eligible voters will be denied their right to vote in upcoming state and local elections without ever having been provided with notice or an opportunity to fix issues with their voter registration application.
