NVRA Notice Letter Re: Virginia Naturalized Citizen Voter Purge

On October 3, 2024, CLC, Protect Democracy, Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, Virginia Coalition for Immigrant Rights and the League of Women Voters of Virginia sent a letter to Commissioner of Elections Susan Beals and the Virginia Department of Elections putting Virginia on notice that the program arising from Executive Order 35 with the effect of purging naturalized citizens from its voter rolls shortly before the November 2024 election violates the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA). CLC and partner organizations are demanding that Virginia immediately cease its unlawful program targeting naturalized citizens and that the Department of Elections provide records about the development and implementation of the program, as required by the NVRA.
