Memorandum of Law in Support of the Motion of VPIRG to Intervene as Defendant
On December 30, 2025, Campaign Legal Center along with the Brennan Center for Justice and Wilschek Iarrapino filed on behalf of Vermont Public Interest Research Group (VPIRG) a motion to intervene as defendant in United States v. Copeland Hanzas. In that case, the Department of Justice has sued Vermont’s secretary of state for failing to turn over information, including sensitive voter data. VPIRG works to mobilize Vermonters to protect and strengthen democracy in the state and represents thousands of members across Vermont whose personal information may now be unlawfully shared depending on the outcome of this litigation.
