League of Women Voters of Louisiana et al. v. Landry et al. Amended Complaint

On December 10, 2025, Campaign Legal Center (CLC), Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law (Lawyers’ Committee), and Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) filed an amended complaint against Louisiana state officials and the Lafayette Parish Registrar on behalf of the League of Women Voters of Louisiana and the League of Women Voters of Louisiana Education Fund (together, LWVLA or the League), Voice of the Experienced (VOTE), the NAACP Louisiana State Conference, and the Power Coalition for Equity and Justice (PCEJ). This lawsuit alleges that Senate Bill 436 (S.B. 436), a new state law requiring proof of citizenship to register to vote, violates the Due Process Clause of the First and Fourteenth Amendments to the U.S. Constitution, the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA), and the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
