On August 21, 2026, Campaign Legal Center filed a complaint against the U.S. Department of Justice under the Freedom of Information Act. This litigation seeks the production of records related to the creation of a $1.776 billion Anti-Weaponization Fund for victims of alleged government "weaponization and lawfare." A collusive settlement from a separate lawsuit that President Trump filed in his personal capacity against the Internal Revenue Service created the Fund in May 2026. These records will shed light on what (if any) activities the Fund has engaged in, including any claims submitted for compensation, who influenced the Fund's creation from outside DOJ, and what role (if any) White House officials played.
