FEC Denies CLC’s Request to Clarify Enforcement Rights After Trump’s Executive Order

On March 20, 2025, the Federal Election Commission (FEC) denied Campaign Legal Center’s (CLC) request for an advisory opinion clarifying CLC’s right to file a civil enforcement complaint under the Federal Election Campaign Act in light of President Donald Trump’s February 18, 2025, Executive Order “Ensuring Accountability for All Agencies,” which purports to prohibit all federal agencies and officials from advancing an interpretation of law that is contrary to a position taken by the president or the attorney general.
