Comment Opposing Census Bureau's Proposed Changes to the Census

In September 2026, the Census Bureau proposed a rule that would unlawfully exclude from the census count undocumented immigrants and lawful temporary residents, as well as prohibit the census from asking about race and ethnicity. As the comment explains, these changes are barred by the U.S. Constitution and federal laws, and they would inflict tremendous harm on communities across the country, all of which rely upon accurate census data for congressional redistricting, enforcement of federal civil rights laws, and the distribution of trillions in federal funds.
