CLC Urges FEC to Hold George Santos Accountable for Campaign Finance Violations

George Santos accountable for his brazen, admitted violations of federal campaign finance laws — particularly since President Donald Trump’s commutation of Santos’ criminal sentence set him free after serving just three months of a seven-year prison sentence, and with no obligation to pay the court-ordered restitution of over $370,000 to the victims of his fraud scheme. As CLC’s letter emphasizes, the FEC has independent civil enforcement authority to pursue violations of federal campaign laws, and the commutation of Santos’ sentence elevates the importance of the FEC fulfilling its duty to provide accountability in this matter, and restore public trust in our democracy.
