CLC Petitions FEC to Require Disclaimers on Influencers’ Paid Political Ads
On October 23, 2025, Campaign Legal Center (CLC) petitioned the Federal Election Commission (FEC) to open a rulemaking to require on-ad “paid for by” disclaimers on influencers’ political ads. CLC’s petition explains that political groups — including candidates’ campaigns as well as dark money groups, super PACs, and their special interest backers — are increasingly paying influencers to create or promote political ad content, and that rules requiring on-ad disclaimers for such content are urgently needed to ensure that voters seeing influencers’ political ads know who paid for those ads.
