CLC Letter of Support for Senate Markup of the ETHICS Act

On July 23, 2024, Campaign Legal Center (CLC) sent a letter to the United States Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, expressing support for its scheduled markup of S. 1171, the Ending Trading and Holdings In Congressional Stocks (ETHICS) Act. CLC’s letter strongly urges every member of the committee to vote in favor of the ETHICS Act, as well as a bipartisan agreement between Sens. Peters (D-MI), Merkley (D-OR), Hawley (R-MO) and Ossoff (D-GA) to revise and strengthen this bill. If amended and passed, the ETHICS Act would help address serious concerns around lawmakers' stock trading by prohibiting members of Congress, the president, and the vice president, as well as their spouses and dependent children, from buying and selling individual stocks.
