CLC Files FEC Complaint Against Mayor Eric Adams for Violations of the Ban on Soliciting and Accepting Donations from Foreign Nationals
On February 18, 2025, Campaign Legal Center (CLC) filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) alleging that New York City Mayor Eric Adams, and his 2021 and 2025 mayoral campaign committees, violated federal campaign finance law by soliciting and accepting campaign donations from foreign nationals. Based on information developed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and alleged in a federal indictment that was returned by a grand jury, Mayor Adams allegedly engaged in a corrupt, multi-year scheme to solicit money from foreign nationals and funnel it into his campaigns using straw donors. While the Department of Justice (DOJ) has moved to dismiss the indictment for political reasons having nothing to do with the strength of the case, the FEC is a wholly independent agency with its own civil enforcement mandate. The FEC now has the opportunity and obligation to protect the integrity of our elections by holding Mayor Adams accountable.
