CLC Files Amicus Brief in D.C. Circuit Court in Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington v. American Action Network (CREW v. AAN)

On April 5, 2023, CLC filed an amicus brief supporting Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) in its citizen suit against dark-money group American Action Network, which is now on appeal before the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals. The brief describes the harms of dark money and how the Federal Election Commission (FEC) contributed to the proliferation of dark money in our elections. The brief also discusses the importance of judicial intervention in cases involving the FEC, in light of the FEC’s abdication of its enforcement duties, particularly when it comes to requiring nonprofit groups to register and report as political committees when their major purpose is influencing elections.
