CLC Defends the Johnson Amendment before the U.S. Department of Justice

Campaign Legal Center filed a public comment urging the U.S. Department of Justice’s Religious Liberty Commission to rescind its recommendation in its June 2026 Draft Report (The White House, Washington The Presidential Religious Liberty Commission Americas' First Freedom Pursuant to the Executive Order 14291 of May 1, 2025) that the federal government narrow or repeal the Johnson Amendment’s protections against electioneering by 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations.
