CLC Complaint to DOJ Inspector General Regarding Deputy AG Todd Blanche
Campaign Legal Center requested that the Department of Justice (DOJ) Office of the Inspector General (OIG) investigate whether the Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche participated in particular matters affecting his financial interests in violation of the criminal conflict of interest law, 18 U.S.C. § 208. According to media reports and publicly available financial disclosures, Blanche apparently issued a new DOJ prosecution policy that benefitted the digital asset industry while he owned digital assets. If Blanche participated in a particular matter affecting the digital asset industry while owning digital assets, he may have violated his ethics agreement and the criminal conflict of interest law.
This is an update to the complaint filed on January 22, 2026. This corrects the possible value range for Blanche’s digital assets ownership based on his financial disclosures. The updated value range is between $159,011 and $485,000, not $274,013 and $785,000. The original complaint also understated the value of his Bitcoin ownership at the time he sold it. He reported a sale of between $100,001 and $250,000 in Bitcoin, not $50,001 and $100,000. The complaint also acknowledges Blanche’s ownership and sale of between $15,001 and $50,000 in Ethereum, which is distinct from his ownership and sale of Ethereum Classic.
