CLC Comments to Maine Commission on Governmental Ethics & Election Practices on Redboxing
Campaign Legal Center (CLC) submitted comments to the Maine Commission on Governmental Ethics & Election Practices, urging the Commission to regulate redboxing in state elections. As CLC’s comments explain, redboxing is a form of coordinated spending between candidates and outside groups aimed at circumventing contribution limits. Coordinated spending enabled by redboxing therefore creates a serious risk of corruption and should be regulated. Finally, CLC’s comments explain that the Federal Election Commission’s failure to regulate redboxing in federal elections contradicts federal law and should not be followed in Maine.
