CLC Alleges Straw Donor Scheme Funneled Over $2.5 Million to PACs
On May 7, 2024, Campaign Legal Center (CLC) filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) alleging that unknown persons used an obscure Delaware corporation, called Ardleigh Impact Corp. (“Ardleigh”), to funnel over $2.5 million to multiple federal super PACs and hybrid PACs, including the Congressional Leadership Fund. Ardleigh has no public footprint and there is no indication that it engaged in any activity during the roughly three-month period between its formation and when it began making six-figure political contributions, strongly suggesting that Ardleigh was used to illegally funnel the contributions of others to these PACs while concealing the true contributors’ identities, in violation of the Federal Election Campaign Act (FECA).
