CLC Alleges DeSantis Violated Federal “Soft Money” Ban with State Funds

On May 30, 2023, Campaign Legal Center (CLC) filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) alleging that Florida governor Ron DeSantis and his state PAC, Friends of Ron DeSantis, violated the “soft money” provisions of federal campaign finance law by transferring (either directly or through an agent) over $80 million from Friends of Ron DeSantis to Never Back Down, a federal super PAC that has already spent over $944,000 — and has plans to spend millions more — in support of DeSantis’s 2024 presidential campaign.
