CLC Alleges Dark Money Group Failed to Report Political Ad Attacking Markey

On April 23, 2026, Campaign Legal Center (CLC) filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) alleging that “MA Progress Action” (MAPA), a Boston-based dark money group, violated federal independent-expenditure reporting requirements in connection with a political ad attacking Sen. Ed Markey, who is seeking reelection in the Democratic primary for the U.S. Senate in Massachusetts. CLC’s complaint further alleges that because MAPA appears to have engaged in no activity aside from airing this attack ad, the group triggered political committee status and has therefore violated federal campaign finance laws by failing to register, organize and report as a political committee.
