Brief of Amici Curiae Justice Connection in Support of Plaintiffs’ Opposition to Defendants’ Motions to Stay Temporary Restraining Order in SEIU v. DOJ — Ninth Circuit

Campaign Legal Center (CLC) filed two amicus briefs, at the district court and Ninth Circuit, on behalf of Justice Connection in SEIU v. DOJ. This case seeks to block the Department of Justice from threatening and coercing state and local government officials with criminal consequences if they allow certain — lawfully registered — voters the federal government has targeted to vote in the 2026 midterm elections. The district court temporarily blocked the intimidation campaign, ruling the Department could not threaten state and local officials with criminal consequences for doing their job. Defendants applied for a stay of the temporary restraining order at both the district court and Ninth Circuit. CLC and Justice Connection's brief highlights that state power can be wielded in an unlawful manner or to achieve unlawful ends and that the challenged conduct runs contrary to longstanding government policy and practice.
