On September 12, 2024, Campaign Legal Center, the ACLU of Northern California, and the ACLU of Southern California submitted an amici brief to the Supreme Court of the State of New York, County of Westchester defending the constitutionality of the NYVRA (New York Voting Rights Act). The brief urges the court to reject Defendants’ arguments that the NYVRA violates the U.S. Constitution, because the Act is a race-neutral, anti-discrimination law to which strict scrutiny does not apply, provides for race-neutral and constitutional remedies, and was passed in accordance with New York’s authority to create anti-discrimination laws that go beyond federal law.
