Amicus Brief: People Not Politicians v. Onder
On September 9, 2026, Campaign Legal Center, the ACLU, and the ACLU of Missouri filed an amicus brief at the U.S. Supreme Court supporting a request for a stay submitted by People Not Politicians, the organization leading a referendum effort on Missouri's gerrymandered congressional map. After the Missouri Supreme Court unanimously ruled that the gerrymandered 2025 map "is not the law and has never been the law," a federal district court ordered that no map other than the 2025 map could be used. The amicus brief explains that the federal district judge lacked jurisdiction to issue that order, the order violates federal law, and the order violates the Purcell principle by injecting further chaos into Missouri's elections less than two months before the general election.
