AI Industry-Funded Super PACs Unlawfully Evaded Transparency Rules, CLC Alleges
On May 5, 2026, Campaign Legal Center (CLC) filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) alleging that the super PACs “American Mission” and “Think Big” have unlawfully evaded federal reporting requirements by funneling their payments for goods and services through shell companies set up to conceal how the super PACs are actually spending their money. These super PACs are part of a network of affiliated entities — the “Leading the Future” network — that have raised over $125 million from a handful of ultrawealthy investors in artificial intelligence (AI), including the leaders of OpenAI and Palantir, to elect candidates opposed to regulating AI in the 2026 midterm elections. American Mission and Think Big have both reported disbursing virtually all of their funds, for a wide array of goods and services, to a single corporate entity set up shortly after the super PACs’ formation, and neither LLC appears to be a bona fide commercial vendor operating at arm’s length from the super PAC it services. Accordingly, CLC’s complaint alleges that both super PACs have violated their reporting obligations under federal law.
