Campaign Legal Center & Partners Launch Updated Voter Purge Resource Guide

Our democracy works best when every voter has a chance to participate in the electoral process.

Voter list maintenance is a routine way for election officials to maintain accurate lists of eligible voters within their state.

But voter purging — a practice in which a substantial number of eligible voters are removed from voter rolls — is a threat to Americans’ freedom to vote because these purges tend to disproportionately target people with past felony convictions, voters of color, low-income voters and young voters.

Campaign Legal Center (CLC), in collaboration with Common Cause, Dēmos, and the Southern Poverty Law Center, has released a new Voter Purge Legislative Resource Guide.

This resource provides lawmakers, election workers, and advocates with information on strategies to improve voter list maintenance.

CLC is taking action to prevent unlawful voter purges and closely monitoring states to ensure all Americans’ freedom to vote is protected.
