Paul Ryan, senior counsel at the nonpartisan Campaign Legal Center, said the ad has the appearance of coming from the campaign. “I think it would be very easy for a member of the public interacting with this super PAC to think they were interacting with the candidate,” he said, noting that he was unable to find on the super PAC’s website what the acronym “CARLY for America” actually stood for. “That creates a problem because prospective donors may be deceived,” he added.
