The Telegraph: Pro-Trump super PAC reported to elections watchdog after Telegraph investigation

The Campaign Legal Center, an advocacy group, has filed a formal complaint against the Great America PAC following revelations that senior figures involved  with the PAC sought to channel a Chinese donor’s $2 million (£1.6 million) contribution into the campaign to elect Mr Trump, despite laws prohibiting donations from foreigners.

The Campaign Legal Center’s head lawyer, Lawrence Noble, previously general counsel at the FEC, had earlier reviewed undercover footage for the Telegraph to provide his view of the actions of Mr Benton and Eric Beach, the PAC’s co-chair, both of whom held talks with undercover reporters about the donation.

The Campaign Legal Center's complaint states: "Based on published reports and videotaped meetings, there is reason to believe that Jesse Benton has violated the foreign national solicitation ban by knowingly recommending that a foreign national indirectly make a contribution to Great America PAC, and by providing substantial assistance in developing a recommended plan for how the foreign national could make the illegal contribution."
