State Sen. Brian Kelsey Welcomes Investigation into Potentially Illegal Campaign Donations

The transactions in question began in July 2016. That’s when Kelsey’s state campaign account gave $106,000 to The Standard Club PAC, the political arm of a members-only club. It is affiliated with The Standard restaurant in downtown Nashville. When the Campaign Legal Center filed its complaint with the FEC in June 2017, Brendan Fischer, an attorney and Federal Election Commission reform program director, said, “In order to disguise the illegal transfer of prohibited state money into this federal race, it appears that Kelsey concocted another illegal scheme to pass money through a dark money daisy chain and straw donor reimbursement scheme.
