So while Indiana has loose campaign finance laws allowing donations in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, Pence would only be able to send $2,700 per donor — the federal limit — directly to Holcomb’s campaign account. Any money beyond that could either be sent to charity, returned to donors or left in the dormant account.

“That’s the last the FEC has said on the issue,” said Campaign Legal Center general counsel Larry Noble.
