In Key 2020 Election Decision, Judges Rule Florida Felons Can’t Vote Until They’ve Paid Fines

A year later, the Republican-controlled state legislature decided that a sentence wasn’t completed until all fines and restitution had been paid, passing what has since been criticized by civil liberties groups, including the American Civil Liberties Union and Campaign Legal Center, as a “poll tax.”
