Hank Meijer created LLC accused of campaign finance violation in West Michigan congressional race

The Campaign Legal Center, a nonpartisan campaign finance watchdog group, filed a complaint Friday with the Federal Election Commission against Montcalm LLC, alleging that the LLC was created on Sept. 28 solely for the purpose of masking the identity of the individual behind its Oct. 8 donation. The Campaign Legal Center’s complaint alleges that Montcalm LLC’s donation — before it was updated to include Hank Meijer’s name — violated federal campaign finance law because contributions cannot be “made by one person in the name of another person.”
