Trevor Potter, a Republican who used to run the Federal Election Commission and served as general counsel for John McCain’s 2000 and 2008 presidential campaigns, runs a group called the Campaign Legal Center, which found suspicious transactions among political contributions, when a company called Global Energy Producers gave $325,000 to America First Action, the super PAC supporting Trump.
