Following last week’s vote, Trevor Potter, a former Republican FEC chairman and president of the government watchdog Campaign Legal Center, released a statement expressing disappointment over the outcome, calling the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act a “critical piece of legislation aimed at strengthening our democracy.” “The road ahead might be a bit more challenging, but I urge everyone not to buy into the ‘All is Lost’ media narrative that is already playing out,” said Potter. “The important work of strengthening our democracy must continue.”
