"That's constitutionally impossible," Trevor Potter, president of the Campaign Legal Center and a former chairman of the Federal Election Commission, said of any indefinite delay. "The president’s term expires and there is no way for him to continue in office beyond January 20 without being re-elected." "All of that has to happen by January 20," Potter said. "That is why Congress will not delay the election even a week or two, because the timeline is pretty tight."
