The FEC issued guidance regarding “dark money” groups and their donors, which could lead to more donors being unmasked.

The new guidance states donations “received on or after August 4 are subject to disclosure for independent expenditures disseminated on or after September 18,” meaning donations that funded expenditures for the majority of the quarter won’t appear, according to an analysis from the Campaign Legal Center.

“It seems unlikely we’re going to get much disclosure before Election Day,” Brendan Fischer, the CLC’s federal reform program director, told Score.
