On March 11, 2022, Campaign Legal Center (CLC) hosted the virtual event “Turning the Tide of Disinformation: A Conversation with Rick Hasen” about Hasen’s new book, “Cheap Speech: How Disinformation Poisons Our Politics—and How to Cure It.”

During the event, Hasen discussed how over the last few decades, it has become easier to disseminate false or misleading content and why it is important to stop disinformation campaigns that threaten our democracy.

To give Americans better access to reliable information, Hasen suggested solutions like having social media websites disclose of the source of content on individual posts, displaying disclaimers for content that is misleading and creating an accreditation process for organizations publishing news and engaging content to different social media platforms.

Voters have a right to know who is trying to influence our vote so that we can make decisions on matters of importance to our government and our lives.
