Peterson v. Fontes — Friend-of-the-court brief

On March 22, 2024, CLC filed a friend-of-the-court (amicus) brief in Peterson v. Fontes, on behalf of Living United for Change in Arizona, League of United Latin American Citizens, Arizona Students’ Association, San Carlos Apache Tribe, and Inter Tribal Council of Arizona, Inc., in support of Arizona’s secretary of state defending Arizona’s Election Procedures Manual (EPM). The EPM allows Arizona’s counties to have accurate, detailed guidance for election administration that incorporates both federal and state law, and ensures that elections are run smoothly to reduce chaos and confusion. CLC’s brief explains the importance of the EPM in running uniform and orderly elections, and that the secretary is bound to issue guidance that gives effect to federal law and court orders.
