Closing Letter - FEC Kobach Complaint

In 2019, CLC filed an FEC complaint alleging that WeBuildTheWall’s solicitation violated the federal prohibition on corporate facilitation of contributions to candidates. The complaint alleged that WeBuildTheWall solicited its email subscribers for contributions to the United States Senate campaign of Kris Kobach.

In 2022, the FEC found that WeBuildTheWall violated the law by making a corporate contribution by renting an email list below market value to Kris Kobach and his campaign Committee. The FEC additionally found that Kobach and the Committee violated the law by knowingly accepting the corporate contribution from WBTW and that the Committee violated the law by failing to report the in-kind contribution.
